Our editorial standard
FastenerBench publishes problem-first technical guidance. The editorial objective is to answer the reader’s actual repair question, explain the mechanism behind the failure and preserve good material before recommending a more destructive method.
Source hierarchy
We prefer primary and technically accountable sources where practical. Depending on the subject, that can include repair-system manufacturers, fastener and tooling manufacturers, recognized technical references, equipment documentation and standards-based reference material. Retailer or distributor information may support product terminology or tool availability, but it should not be the sole basis for a safety-critical technical claim.
How we handle dimensions and specifications
Generic calculators, charts and rules of thumb are presented as starting points when appropriate. They do not override the chart for the exact tap, insert system, fastener, component or machine. We avoid presenting a universal torque, thread strength or repair approval when the correct value depends on fastener grade, lubrication, joint design, parent material or manufacturer procedure.
Repair escalation
Our guides favor the least destructive sensible method first. Drilling, cutting, heating, welding and thread enlargement can be appropriate, but each removes options or changes the component. Articles identify stop conditions where continued force or material removal can make the repair substantially worse.
Language and terminology
FastenerBench is written in US English while retaining the technical terms a reader may encounter in manufacturer literature. We distinguish head style, drive type and thread system rather than treating everyday terms as interchangeable when the distinction changes the repair.
Visual integrity
Technical diagrams are created to explain a specific concept or decision. They are not presented as dimensional engineering drawings unless dimensions are explicitly sourced and labeled. Editorial hero images illustrate the failure mode and are secondary to the written repair guidance and technical references.
Affiliate independence
Affiliate relationships do not change which method is recommended. Product-category links may be included when a tool or consumable is naturally required by the procedure. An unmapped or unavailable affiliate product must not make the technical guidance incomplete.
Corrections and updates
Technical pages may be updated when a source changes, a clearer distinction is needed or a factual problem is identified. Material corrections should improve the article itself rather than being hidden behind a cosmetic “updated” date. Readers can use the Contact page to flag a possible error.
